The Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS uses a comprehensive information security management system (ISMS) that ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information and data. Information and the supporting processes, IT systems, and communication networks are important business assets for the Fraunhofer Society, its customers, and funding bodies, and must be adequately protected.
The ISMS is based on the international standards ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO/IEC 27002 and takes into account the requirements of ISO/IEC 27701 for technical and organizational measures to ensure data protection (in accordance with the GDPR and BDSG). The system is a central component of the institute's research and development processes and minimizes potential security incidents in order to maintain a high level of protection at all times.
The guidelines in the Fraunhofer IMWS Information Security Manual apply to all employees, contractors, and third parties with access to the institute's information systems.
Objectives of the ISMS
- Protection of research and customer data as well as our intellectual property
- Ensuring the continuity of research and development processes
- Compliance with legal and contractual requirements
- Prevention of reputational damage or damage to our image
- Strengthening the security awareness of all employees at Fraunhofer IMWS
