The Fraunhofer IMWS focuses on the microstructure of materials and systems with regard to technology development and diagnostics.

The turn of the year is always a welcome opportunity to look back. This has also long been a tradition at the Fraunhofer IMWS. The most important information from 2023 is now summarized on a dedicated website. Institute Director Prof. Dr. Erica Lilleodden takes stock, there are statistics on scientific publications, patents and awards, and the institute's business unit heads have their say in interviews. Visitors to the website can review the most important events of the past year in a photo gallery and watch videos about research activities and successful events.

The focus will naturally be on an overview of the research results that the institute has achieved. These include, for example, optimized semiconductors made of gallium nitride for power electronics, findings on the possible applications of a digital twin of solar parks, a new process for laser structuring of plastics, the development of high-performance polyamide tapes with unidirectional glass fibre reinforcement or improved possibilities for thermal management in car headlights. Newly launched projects and methods developed at the institute, such as the use of bioinks for 3D printing or defect detection in electrolyzers, will also be presented.

The new format offers the opportunity to present the review of the past year in a more up-to-date and multimedia format, and the online solution is also more sustainable. We hope you enjoy discovering the highlights!
