Tensile properties and tensile modulus of elasticity

In component testing, tensile properties refer to the mechanical properties of a component under tensile stress. These properties can be measured at Fraunhofer IMWS to characterize the strength, elongation, and deformability of a component.

The most important tensile properties include:

Tensile strength

The maximum tensile force that a component can withstand before it breaks.

Elongation

The elongation or deformation of the component under tensile load, expressed as a percentage.

Elasticity

The ability of the component to return to its original shape after the load is removed.

Breaking strength

The load at which the component fails and breaks.
