Differential Scanning Calorimetry for the Identification of Thermal Transitions in Materials

Thermal analysis comprises a range of methods in which materials or components are subjected to defined temperature programs. These methods provide valuable information on thermal transitions and properties such as heat capacity, thermal conductivity, thermal expansion, and thermal stability. They are used to assess the performance and reliability of materials and components under demanding thermal conditions and to evaluate their suitability for specific applications.

At Fraunhofer IMWS, a broad portfolio of thermal analysis methods is available. These include Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), methods for determining filler and glass fiber content, techniques for analyzing the melting behavior of polymers, and approaches for quantifying thermal conductivity and thermal expansion.
