Thermography is a non-destructive testing method used at Fraunhofer IMWS that is based on the detection and analysis of thermal radiation. An infrared camera is used to capture thermographic images of surfaces or components. By analyzing these images, temperature differences and distributions can be made visible.
In materials testing, thermography enables the detection of defects such as cracks, missing parts, cavities, or delamination, as these can lead to temperature-related differences. Early detection of such defects allows measures to be taken to prevent or reduce damage.
