Quality management for greater customer satisfaction

We want our customers to be satisfied and receive the best possible service from us. That is why we are one of around 20 Fraunhofer Institutes that are certified according to ISO 9001 or other standards. The standard regulates processes and corporate structures, as well as standards in laboratories. Work and procedural instructions guarantee a uniform approach. The seal allows customers to immediately and transparently recognize that the institute is certified and meets the requirements of the standard in regular audits. At the same time, it makes work easier for Fraunhofer IMWS employees. The documentation of processes simplifies substitution cases and regulates responsibilities.

Christian Krüger, quality management coordinator at the institute, emphasizes the benefits of working with customers. »Many companies that are also certified require this seal from their partners. Customer satisfaction is at the heart of the quality management system.«

 

Certification according to DIN ISO 9001

Fraunhofer IMWS has had all areas certified, from administration to individual business areas. Laboratories and workshops as well as workflows and procedures are therefore certified.

The Fraunhofer Institutes have established a network for quality management. »This is where QM representatives from the certified institutes come together. This allows for an exchange of ideas and best practice solutions. The network provides us with a lot of input«, says Krüger, explaining another initiative for the continuous improvement of services.

 

Internal and external review

Compliance with the specified standards is reviewed by internal audits conducted by the institute's quality management officers. In addition, an annual audit is conducted by external auditors. »During a system audit, the entire system is evaluated in various areas: How are projects carried out and how is information transmitted? During product audits, for example, samples are tracked throughout the entire company and the associated processes are evaluated«, explains Krüger.

The DIN ISO 9001 standard creates clear structures for employees, meets regulatory requirements, and promotes customer satisfaction.
